Men break school record with second-place finish

The Hawks broke the team school record for 54 holes
The Rockhurst men's golf team broke the 54-hole school record while finishing in second place out of 10 teams at the Bulldog Fall Classic at the Katke Golf Course in Big Rapids, Michigan, on Tuesday.

The Hawks rewrote the school record by six strokes with an 868 (289-294-285). Rockhurst finished six shots behind first-place Gannon University.

Senior Elijah Shirley took home medalist honors with a 210 score. He shot a 67 in the final round after opening with a 72 and 71 in the first two rounds to post the second best 54-hole score in school history.

Freshman Kingston Solomon finished one shot behind Shirley in second place with a 211 score. He also finished with a 71, preceded by a 74 and 70, in recording the third best 54-hole score at Rockhurst.

Senior David Schilp tied for 18th place at 220 and shot a 68 in the first round. Junior Ashton Vinton tied for 33rd at 229, junior Mike Wolski tied for 43rt 229, and senior Ben Elgas finished 59th at 243.

The Hawks return to action on Sept. 23 at the KC Cup in Smithville, Missouri.
