Coleman reaches quarterfinals at ITA Regional

Ella Coleman won three matches at ITA Regional

The Rockhurst University women's tennis team wrapped up play in the ITA Regional Championships on Monday in Allendale, Michigan.

Ella Coleman led the way singles play, winning three matches and advancing to the quarterfinals in Flight A. Coleman won third set tie-breakers over Walsh (10-7), Ferris State (10-8) and Hillsdale (10-4). She lost a third set tie-breaker (11-9) in the quarterfinals to Wayne State.

Sofia Valdespino, Dani Lentisco and Marina Magai all lost their opening singles matches in Flight A. In Flight B, Zuzanna Szmyd won her first match in a third set tie-breaker to Walsh (12-10) and then lost to Saginaw Valley State in the Round of 32. Maria Baez and Cecilia Ulrich lost in two sets, while Hana Bytyqi lost in a third set tie-breaker (11-9).

On the doubles side, Coleman and Valdespino won their first match, 8-4, over Michigan Tech and then lost in the Round of 16 to Wayne State, 8-3, in Flight A. Lentisco and Szmyd lost their first match in Flight A to Wayne State, 8-3.

In Flight B doubles, Magai and Baez defeated Davenport, 8-0, and then fell to Walsh in the Round of 16. Ulrich and Bytyqi lost 8-4 to Indianapolis in their opening match.
