Coleman named GLVC Player and Freshman of the Year

Ella Coleman has a 16-3 record in singles

Rockhurst freshman Ella Coleman has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player and Freshman of the Year in the sport of women's tennis.

Coleman earns Rockhurst's second Player and Freshman of the Year honor but is just the third player in league history to win both awards in the same season. She went 16-3 overall and 4-1 in GLVC action at No. 1 singles and is ranked No. 21 in the ITA Division II singles rankings. She is also 11-8 overall and 3-2 against GLVC foes in No. 2 doubles.

Joining Coleman on the All-GLVC Team is freshman Zuzanna Szmyd, who is also Rockhurst's team recipient for the James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Award.

The Hawks, 14-6 overall and 3-2 in GLVC action, are the third seed in the West Division for GLVC Tournament and will play Missouri-St. Louis at noon Friday in Springfield, Missouri.
