Women start spring season with two victories

Sofia Valdespino has a 3-0 singles record this spring

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 The Rockhurst women's tennis team is off to a strong start in the spring season with wins over Colorado Mesa (6-1) and Emporia State (5-2).

The Hawks return five players from last year's team, led by All-GLVC honorees Sofia Valdespino and Marina Magai. Dani Lentisco, Maria Baez and Andrea Dabbah also return to this year's roster.

Valdespino has won her first three singles matches this spring after posting a 9-11 record last year. Lentisco and Baez have combined for a 4-1 record this month.

Freshmen Ella Coleman and Zuzanna Szmyd are also playing well for the Hawks. Coleman is 2-1 in No. 1 singles, while Szmyd is 2-0 in No. 4 singles.

The Hawks (3-1) host William Woods at Northland Racquet Club on Saturday, Feb. 24.
