RU men to face two MIAA foes this week

The Rockhurst men's basketball team is back in action for two games this week against teams from the MIAA. Rockhurst faces Missouri Western on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in St. Joseph, Missouri, and will host Missouri Southern on Friday at 7 p.m. at Mason-Halpin Field House.

Last Friday, Rockhurst (2-1) fell to 10th-ranked Washburn, 77-55, at Mason-Halpin. Jesse White led Rockhurst with 18 points. Dillon Mong had 12 points off the bench, including 4-of-6 shooting from the three-point line.

Missouri Western (4-1) faced Maryville on Nov. 16 and won 67-56. After starting 0-1, the Griffons are now on a four-game winning streak heading into the matchup with Rockhurst.

Since 2000, Missouri Western leads the series 12-9 and is on a three-game winning streak against Rockhurst. Most recently, the Griffons defeated Rockhurst 92-76 on Nov. 15, 2023, at Mason-Halpin.

Last Thursday, Missouri Southern (1-3) defeated Ozark Christian College, 109-79. Two days later, the Lions fell 71-68 to Quincy. Missouri Southern will face GLVC foe Southwest Baptist on Monday before facing Rockhurst on Friday. 

Dating back to 1970, the Lions hold a 26-22 series lead over Rockhurst. The Hawks have won three out of the last four contests against Missouri Southern, including a 75-57 victory on Nov. 25, 2023, in Joplin, Missouri.
