Rockhurst faces SLU in exhibition opener

The 2024-25 Rockhurst men's basketball season tips off today at 7 p.m. with an exhibition game against Saint Louis University at SLU's Chaifetz Arena.

Head coach Kyle Blackbourn begins his first season at Rockhurst with 10 newcomers and eight returning players on his roster. The top returners are guards Brian Hawthorne, Nick Arensberg and Nico Felici. The trio combined for 70 starts and 637 points last year. Senior forward Rron Thaci is the top returning 3-point shooter from last year's 12-16 team.

The Saint Louis Billikens are also beginning the season with a new coach in Josh Schertz, who led Indiana State to the NIT championship game last year. The Billikens were picked fourth in the Atlantic-10 Preseason Coaches' Poll. SLU finished 13-20 overall and 5-13 in the A-10 last year.

Rockhurst will begin its 104th season ranked 34th all-time among Division II schools with 1,407 victories. The Hawks open the regular season Nov. 8-9 in the GLIAC-GLVC Challenge in Davenport, Michigan, facing Davenport on Nov. 8 and Purdue-Northwest on Nov. 9.
