Three Hawks named GCAA All-America Scholars

Rockhurst's Ben Elgas, David Schilp and Caleb Schmid were named 2023 All-America Scholars by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).

To be eligible for Division II All-America Scholar status, a student-athlete must be a sophomore, junior or senior academically, participate in at least 50 percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 78.0 and maintain a minimum cumula­tive grade point average of 3.20.

Elgas averaged 76.45 strokes over 22 rounds in nine tournaments and was the medalist with a 54-hole score of 141 at the Ottawa Fall Invitational in Lawrence, Kansas. The sophomore from Leawood, Kansas also tied for ninth at the Kansas City Cup in Smithville, Missouri.

Schilp led the Hawks with a 75.27 stroke average over 22 rounds in nine tournaments. The sophomore from St. Louis, Missouri posted six top 20 finishes. He shot a career-low 142 over 36 holes at the Arch Cup in Madison, Illinois.

Schmid is a two-time All-America Scholar award winner. He averaged 76.68 strokes over 22 rounds in nine tournaments and collected four top 20 finishes. The junior from Emporia, Kansas shot a season-best 227 over 54 holes in The Mule tournament in Warrensburg, Missouri.
