Byhre named NABC Division II All-American

Rich Byhre is the first player in school history to earn NABC All-America honors.
Rockhurst men's basketball standout Rich Byhre has been named to the 2022-23 National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division II All-America Team.

Byhre is the first player in school history to earn NABC All-America honors. The All-America honors are voted on by NABC-member coaches across NCAA Division II.

The 6-8 forward also earned NABC First Team All-District and First Team All-GLVC honors this season. He received GLVC Player of the Week honors four times this season.

"This season, Rich was a great threat for us at the rim, especially early in the year, and from the three-point line later in the year. That versatility is what makes him such a weapon offensively," said RU coach Drew Diener.

Byhre, who led the Hawks to a 16-13 record in 2022-23, led the conference in scoring (17.9 pg) and ranked third in rebounding (8.1 pg) in the GLVC. He shot 50.5 percent from the field, 40.0 percent on 3-point field goals and ranked sixth in the GLVC in free-throw shooting (86.1 percent).

"His unselfishness makes him a fun guy to play with," Diener added. "It's nice to see Rich get rewarded for his approach to athletics."

Byhre scored a career-high 37 points against Truman State on Feb. 23 and scored 20 or more points in nine games. He also posted six double-doubles and led the GLVC in defensive rebounds this season.
