Byhre earns NABC All-District honors

Rich Byhre led the GLVC in scoring with a 17.9 scoring average.

Rockhurst men's basketball standout Rich Byhre has been named to the 2022-23 National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division II All-District First Team in the Midwest Region.

Byhre earned NABC All-District honors for the first time in his career after being a First Team All-GLVC selection this season. The All-District honors are voted on by NABC-member coaches across NCAA Division II.

"I am so proud of Rich and his improvement each year here. He takes basketball very seriously and spends so much time away from practice on his body and skills," said Rockhurst coach Drew Diener.

Byhre, who led the Hawks to a 16-13 record in 2022-23, received GLVC Player of the Week honors four times this season. The 6-8 forward led the conference in scoring (17.9 pg) and ranked third in rebounding (8.1 pg) in the GLVC.

"After sustaining a season-ending injury in high school, he was under recruited," Diener added. "We could see his size and skill very clearly on film, but his focus on his recovery and his basketball IQ were tremendous strengths for him as well."
