Reilly, Olson earn major GLVC postseason honors

Ali Olson becomes RU’s fifth GLVC Freshman of the Year
Rockhurst senior libero Maureen Reilly and freshman attacker Ali Olson have earned major postseason honors for the 2023 Great Lakes Valley Conference Volleyball season, the league office announced on Thursday. Reilly was named GLVC Libero of the Year for the second consecutive year, while Olson garnered GLVC Freshman of the Year honors.

Reilly was named to the All-GLVC First Team for the second year in a row. Senior attacker Tera Reberry, sophomore attacker Sarah Pyle and senior setter Sarah Montague received All-GLVC Second Team awards.

The All-Conference awards are nominated and voted on by league coaches, who, per GLVC Bylaws, are not permitted to vote for their own players.

Libero of the Year: Maureen Reilly, Senior, Rockhurst
  • Wins Libero of the Year for second-straight year and become Rockhurst's 10th overall major award winner.
  • Led GLVC during 105 sets overall for digs per set (5.61) and finished runner-up for digs (589)
  • Placed first in digs per set (5.65) and second in digs (305) through 54 Conference sets.
  • Added 114 total assists (1.09/set) with 60 (1.11/set) coming in GLVC matches.
  • Named Molten GLVC Defensive Player of the Week on Sep. 11, Oct. 9, and Oct. 30.
  • Also named to All-GLVC First Team for her third career All-Conference selection and second on the First Team.
 Freshman of the Year: Ali Olson, Attacker, Rockhurst
  • Becomes Rockhurst's fifth Freshman of the Year and first since Alyssa Woodman in 2016.
  • Earns 11th overall major award for the Hawks.
  • Placed third in league with 108 total blocks and 1.14 blocks per set and was eighth in hitting percentage (.333) over 95 sets.
  • Added 193 kills for 2.03 per set and 260.5 points for 2.74 per set overall.
  • Finished fourth in league in 46 GLVC-only sets with 1.20 blocks per set and fifth in blocks (55).
  • Contributed 88 kills for 1.91 per set and 127 points for 2.76 per set in Conference matches.
Southwest Baptist earned the sport's GLVC James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Team Award, while 14 student-athletes were GLVC James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Award honorees. The student-athletes chosen are individuals who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. Logan Gronewold is Rockhurst's nominee and is now eligible to become one of the school's two Spalding Sportsmanship Award winners, which will be announced at the end of the academic year.
