Coleman leads Hawks at Washburn Invitational

Ella Coleman won the Blue Draw in singles

Freshman Ella Coleman led the Rockhurst women's tennis team at the Washburn Invitational Sunday at Kossover Tennis Center in Topeka, Kansas.

Coleman won the singles title in the Blue Draw, defeating Washburn's Maja Jung, 7-6 (7-3), 6-2. Jung was ranked No. 27 nationally in singles last spring. Coleman earlier posted straight set wins over Washburn's Renske Ubachs, 6-3, 7-5, and Nebraska-Kearney's Jazmin Zamorano, 6-4, 6-1.

Andrea Dabbah picked up two wins in singles play in the Yellow Draw. Dabbah defeated Emporia State's Sheridan Wichman, 6-2, 2-6, 10-4, and collected a 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 win over ESU's Caroline Henry.

Marina Magai, Dani Lentisco and Maria Baez lost their first-round singles matches in two sets. Lentisco and Maria Baez lost their consolation matches.

In the top doubles draw, Coleman and Magai lost 8-6 to Nebraska-Kearney, while Valdespino and Zuzanna Szmyd lost 8-6 to Washburn.
