Hawks break school record for 18-hole team score

Mac Piles birdied five holes while shooting a career-best 69.

One of the oldest records in the Rockhurst men's golf record books fell on the first day of the Rockhurst Fall Invitational Wednesday at the Swope Memorial Golf Course in Kansas City, Missouri.

The Hawks shot a 278 team score to break the school record for 18 holes. The old 18-hole record of 284 was set in 2006. Rockhurst leads in the team scoring by 25 shots.

Luke Brugman and Mac Piles each fired a 69 to lead the Hawks. Jack Junge and Brett Blau each shot a 70 to round out the team scoring for Rockhurst.

Brugman eagled the par-5 ninth hole to highlight his round. Piles finished with five birdies.

Caleb Schmid also shot a 69 while playing as an individual. Schmid posted three birdies and an eagle to shoot a 30 on the front nine.
