Hawks sign two guards, one forward

Hawks announce three men's basketball signees.
Rockhurst head coach Drew Diener announced the signing of three men's basketball standouts on Wednesday (May 12) with the additions of Rron Thaci (Chicago, Illinois/Jones College Prep), Damari Nixon (Chicago, Illinois/Curie HS/Kankakee CC) and Connor Renard (Lincoln, Nebraska/Lincoln Northeast HS).

Breaking down each signee:
  • A 6-foot-6 guard, Rron Thaci played at Jones College Prep in Chicago, Illinois. He averaged 18 points and 10 rebounds per game. He also played with the U18 Kosovo National Team.
Coach Diener: "Rron is an efficient offensive player. He has a great feel for the game which makes him a great passer and cutter. He is a great shooter with range. At 6-6, he will force long closeouts beyond the 3-point line. His experience playing with Kosovo in FIBA competition will only benefit his development."
  • Damari Nixon, a 6-foot-2 guard, played the past two seasons at Kankakee Community College in Illinois. He averaged 11.2 points per game and had a 1.6 assist-to-turnover ratio the past two seasons at Kankakee.
Coach Diener: "We will count on Damari to create offense for us next year. He is very good off the bounce and changes speeds well to keep defenses off balance. He knows how to play as evidence of the assist/turnover ratio. He plays unselfish and makes the right play. His experience in junior college and playing in the Chicago Public League will help him make the adjustment to the GLVC."
  • A 6-foot-7, 220-pound forward, Connor Renard averaged 13.0 points, 8.6 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game while shooting 63 percent from the field. He was an All-Heartland Athletic Conference selection and earned Second Team All-City and All-State honorable mention honors.
Coach Diener: "Connor has a college ready body and motor. He enjoys physicality, which is refreshing for a high school guy. He has a tremendous work ethic. I believe he will be able to stretch the floor with his shooting and perimeter game. We are excited to coach him and watch his game develop."
