Conference schedule tips off tonight

The conference portion of the schedule tips off tonight for the Rockhurst men. The Hawks host Southwest Baptist at 7:30 p.m.
 
Rockhurst (2-5) enters its GLVC opener fresh off an 87-70 victory over Concordia University last Saturday. Senior forward Nick Volz led the Hawks with 19 points and 10 rebounds.

Volz ranks eighth in scoring (15.9 pg) and 11th in rebounding (6.6 pg) in the GLVC. Sophomore guard Jake Auer leads the GLVC in 3-point field goals made (3.3 pg) while ranking 11th in scoring (14.4 pg) in the conference.

Southwest Baptist (5-1, 1-0 GLV)) is averaging a league-best 86.5 points per game. Five players are averaging 10-plus points per game. The Bearcats are coming off a 77-66 victory at home over William Jewell Monday night.

The Bearcats won both meetings with Rockhurst last season. The Hawks hold a 32-23 lead over SBU in the all-time series.

The Hawks conclude the weekend on Saturday at Drury (3 p.m.). The Panthers (2-5, 0-1 GLVC) dropped its conference opener at Missouri S&T, 80-76, Monday night.

Drury senior guard Victor Nwagbarachoa leads the Panthers in scoring (13.4 pg, 13th in the GLVC). Drury has won 19 of the last 20 meetings with Rockhurst.
