Hawks host Missouri S&T in conference opener

The Hawks posted a 5-1 record in Florida.

The Rockhurst baseball team opens conference play at home this weekend against the Missouri S&T Miners. The Hawks (7-5) and Miners (5-7) will play a doubleheader on Saturday (12:00 p.m.) and a single game on Sunday (12:00 p.m.) at RU's Loyola Park.

Rockhurst has won six of its last seven games, including posting a 5-1 record in Florida. The Hawks have scored 53 runs in their last seven games and crossed the plate nine or more times in four of those games.

Senior catcher Nic Mertes and senior shortstop Garrett McNally lead the Hawks with .349 batting averages. Mertes has driven in 11 runs and collected seven extra-base hits. McNally leads the team with 12 runs scored and three sacrifice flies.

Sophomore right-hander Michael Hellman tops the pitching staff with a 3.52 ERA in 15.1 innings pitched. Hellman, Jack Eisenbarger, C.J. July and Thomas Jones have combined to start 10 of the Hawks' 12 games.

Missouri S&T is coming off a four-game series sweep of Upper Iowa last weekend. The Miners outscored the Peacocks, 38-20. Davenport swept a four-game series at S&T the previous week.The first game on Saturday and Sunday's game will be live streamed on the Rockhurst Sports Network.
