Fresh off a school-record 11 wins in 2019, Coach
Molly McCourt and the Rockhurst women's lacrosse team are ready to make some noise in 2020.
This is the first season in which the Great Lakes Valley Conference is sponsoring women's lacrosse, and the Hawks will look to carry their recent success in the RMAC over to the GLVC. "We're excited about a tough schedule," McCourt said. "Our goal is to place high in the GLVC and go to the GLVC Championships. We have a group that's all on the same page and all has that same goal."
The Hawks averaged 13.7 goals per game in 2019, and return many of the key cogs from that offensive unit.
Logan Derosia racked up 60 goals en route to being named RMAC Freshman of the Year in 2019.
Marianna Anderson, a Second Team All-RMAC performer last season, tallied 47 goals.
Hannah Miller scored 40 goals and led the team in assists with 26, while
Audrey Ford added 39 goals.
The team is also excited about the return of
Clare Goessling, who missed the 2019 season due to injury. "Clare is really creative and unpredictable for the defense," McCourt said, expecting a nice addition to an already potent offense.
On the defensive end, McCourt is excited about the intelligence and leadership that
Spud Ring and
Jaylin Johnson will bring this season.
Mackenzie Blair, a freshman midfielder from Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, is also expected to see the field early and often. "[Blair] is extremely hard-working, very smart and gets better day-by-day. We're excited about our newcomers," McCourt shared.
Rockhurst opens regular season play at home Saturday vs. Benedictine (10:00 a.m.). "We've got a great group of girls that are excited to get going," McCourt concluded.
