Hawks move home opener to Thursday afternoon

Senor guard Curtis Lewis ranks 13th in school history with 1,332 points.
Due to a last-minute schedule change, the Rockhurst Hawks will now host Illinois Springfield instead of William Jewell in their home opener on Thursday. The Hawks (1-1) and Prairie Stars (1-0) will tip off at 3 p.m. Thursday at RU's Mason-Halpin Field House.

Jewell was scheduled to face the Hawks until the game was postponed on Tuesday due to Covid-19 quarantine protocol. Rockhurst filled the new open space in the schedule by moving up the Feb. 18 home game with Springfield.

The Hawks opened the season on the road last week, winning at 25th-ranked Southern Indiana and falling at McKendree. Chris Hamil leads the team in scoring (22.5 ppg, fifth in the GLVC). Quinton Curry ranks seventh in rebounding (8.0 pg) in the GLVC while scoring 10.5 points per game. Curtis Lewis is seventh in assists (4.5 pg) and 26th in scoring (13.5 pg) in the GLVC.

Lewis and Curry rank among the top active career scorers in NCAA Division II. Lewis ranks fifth in D-II and 13th in school history with 1,332 points. Lewis also ranks fourth in assists (342) and 20th in rebounds (390) among active career D-II players. Curry is sixth in D2 and 16th in school history with 1,232 points. Curry also stands seventh in active career rebounds (583) in D-II.

Springfield defeated Quincy 89-82 in its season opener last week. Sophomore guard Chase Robinson led the Stars with 30 points and six rebounds.

The Hawks defeated the Prairie Stars 68-54 last season in Springfield and holds an 8-5 advantage in the all-time series.

Rockhurst returns to the road on Saturday at Missouri S&T. The Miners (0-2) are led by freshman guard Julien Smith, who is averaging 17.5 points and 3.5 three-point field goals made.

The Hawks defeated the Miners, 78-67, last year in Rolla. Rockhurst has won six consecutive games over S&T and leads the all-time series, 24-12.

Both games will be streaming on glvcsn.com with live stats available here on rockhursthawks.com. The Illinois Springfield game will not feature audio.
