Hawks receive AVCA Team Academic Award

The Rockhurst volleyball team earned the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award for the 2018-19 academic year. It is the 12th consecutive year the program has received the award under head coach Tracy Rietzke.

The AVCA Team Academic Award, which was initiated in 1992-93, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade point average.

Rockhurst was one of 143 NCAA Division II programs to earn the AVCA's annual academic award. In addition, seven players notched a 3.90 or higher GPA during the 2018-19 academic year.

The Hawks open the 2019 regular season on Sept. 6 with matches against Seton Hill and Embry Riddle in the Bahama House Classic in Daytona Beach, Florida. The Hawks return 10 players from last year's team which advanced to the NCAA Regional finals and finished 16th in the country with a 32-7 record.
