Hawks sign 6-8 forward from Finland

Lasse Gummerus will be a junior next season after playing last season at Sheridan College in Wyoming.

Head coach Drew Diener announced the addition of Lasse Gummerus of Espoo, Finland on Wednesday (May 8). The 6-8, 215-pound forward is the fourth addition to the 2019-20 class.

Gummerus will be a junior next season after playing last season at Sheridan College in Wyoming. He averaged six points and two rebounds for Sheridan, which finished 31-4 and qualified for the national junior college tournament. He shot 37 percent on 3-point field goals and 73 percent on free throws.

"We are very excited to add Lasse to our team," said Diener. "He is another guy that is a proven three-point shooter. He is a skilled guy that plays with a high motor."

Gummerus played his freshman season at Marist University in New York. He started 15 games and averaged 4.9 points in 14.3 minutes per game for the Division I school.

"He had a successful freshman year at the D1 level and then played an important role for an excellent junior college program this past season," added Diener. "In watching him on film, he is a smart player who can pass and uses his shot fake well to get by defenders on the perimeter. He gets rave reviews as a teammate and winner from all of his previous coaches."
