Hawks add 6-3 guard from Johnson County CC

General Williams was selected as a Kansas Jayhawk Division II All-Conference and All-Region VI second-team performer.
Head coach Drew Diener announced the signing of General Williams of Kansas City, Missouri on Wednesday (May 15). The 6-3 guard is the fifth addition to the 2019-20 class.

Williams will be a junior next season after playing the past two seasons at Johnson County Community College. Williams helped the Cavaliers to a school-record 31 wins (31-5), a Region VI title and a runner-up finish at the NJCAA Division II National Tournament in 2018-19. He also was part of back-to-back conference championships teams.

Last season, Williams was selected as a Kansas Jayhawk Division II All-Conference and All-Region VI second-team performer. He averaged 9.1 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game. He led the team with 52 3-point baskets and shot a team-best 45.2 percent from beyond the 3-point line. His 52 threes were fifth-most in the conference, and his 3-point shooting percentage ranks at the fourth-best in a season at JCCC.

Williams ranks fifth all-time at JCCC with a 3-point shooting percentage of 43.3. He scored 1,000 points at Summit Christian High School and was a first team All-Conference player.

"General comes from a highly successful junior college program, is a local talent, and is a young man of high character," Diener said. "Those three reasons, in addition to being a great athlete and proven 3-point shooter, make him an outstanding fit for our program.

"We feel that he is very capable of breaking down defenses off the bounce and has all the tools to be a great defensive player. We are thrilled to welcome General to our family."
