Rockhurst faces key GLVC home games this week

Chris Hamil ranks among the GLVC leaders in scoring, 3-point field goals made and steals.

The Rockhurst Hawks return home to host Illinois Springfield Thursday (7:30 p.m.) and McKendree Saturday (1 p.m.) in key Great Lakes Valley Conference matchups this week.

The Hawks (11-10, 5-6 GLVC) are currently in ninth place in the GLVC Point Rating System with seven conference games remaining. Springfield (13-8, 6-5 GLVC) and McKendree (8-12, 4-67 GLVC) rank sixth and 10th, respectively, in the GLVC Point Rating System.

Rockhurst is coming off a 70-67 victory at Maryville last Saturday. Chris Hamil, Curtis Lewis and Quinton Curry rank among the top 20 scorers in the GLVC. Curry, Nick Volz and Connor Evans each rank in the top 20 in rebounding in the GLVC.

Illinois Springfield fell at home to Indianapolis, 86-76, last Saturday. Gilwan Nelson had a team-high 19 points for the Prairie Stars. Vince Walker (17) and Audrae Williams (16) also scored in double figures. Nelson ranks eighth in scoring (15.4) in the GLVC.

The Hawks won their last meeting with UIS, 77-74, in Springfield on Dec. 7, 2017. Rockhurst holds a 6-5 lead in the all-time series, including wins in the last three games. The Hawks are 3-2 all-time in games played in Kansas City.

McKendree has lost five of its last six games, most recently falling at home to Lewis, 69-61. Jacob Donaldson led the Bearcats 14 points. Nate Michael ranks 11th in scoring (14.3) in the GLVC.

Rockhurst has won its last three meetings with the Bearcats, most recently winning 83-71 at McKendree on Feb. 10, 2018. The Hawks hold a 4-1 advantage in the all-time series.
