Hawks host Manhattan Christian Thunder

The Rockhurst Hawks host the Manhattan Christian College Thunder Friday at 7 p.m. . This is the first meeting between the two schools.

The Hawks (3-3) have won three of their last four games. Junior guard Curtis Lewis ranks fifth in scoring (18.2 pg), 13th in assists (3.2 pg) and 10th in free throw percentage (86.0) in the GLVC. Junior center Quintin Curry stands 11th in scoring (16.7 pg) and second in rebounding (8.2 pg) in the GLVC.

This is Rockhurst's first game since defeating William Jewell, 79-48, on Dec. 3 in Liberty, Missouri. Curtis Lewis and Quinton Curry led the Hawks with 16 points apiece. Lewis also posted seven assists, four rebounds and four steals. Curry made seven-of-12 shots while grabbing five rebounds. Thomas Faber finished with 13 points and four rebounds. Nick Volz totaled 12 points and nine rebounds.

Manhattan Christian (1-9) is coming off an 87-84 loss at home to Nebraska Christian Thursday night. Junior guard Gabe Awbrey led MCC with 24 points and eight rebounds. Senior guard Chelvin Webb leads MCC in scoring (14.6 pg), followed in scoring by senior guard Zachary Smalley (14.0 pg) and junior guard Alex Mitura (13.1 pg). The Thunder posted a 104-73 win over Union (Neb.) earlier this season.


The Hawks return to Mason-Halpin on Monday for a special noon tipoff against the Avila Eagles. Avila has a 6-6 record going into a road game at Bethany College on Saturday.
