Offense carries Hawks to pair of wins at McKendree

Wylson Lamb posted three hits and five RBIs in Game One.

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Wylson Lamb connected on a grand slam in the second inning to power Rockhurst to a 16-8 victory over McKendree in the first game of a non-conference doubleheader Tuesday in Lebanon, Illinois.

Lamb's first home run of the season to left-center gave the Hawks a 6-2 lead. He finished with three hits and five RBIs.

Nic Mertes and Jack Burns both collected four hits and three RBIs to lead the 18-hit attack. Mertes hit a solo homer in the first and collected RBI singles in the sixth and seventh. Burns doubled home two runs in the second and added a run-scoring single in the sixth.

Jeremy Lufft and Corbin Hare each tallied two hits. Hare opened the scoring with a two-run single in the first. Michael Ruffolo hit a solo home run in the third. Jordan Smith allowed one run on six hits over 3.2 innings to win his first game of the season.

The Hawks completed the sweep with a 7-6 victory in the second game. Eric Kuse led the 12-hit attack with a two-run home run in the first and a run-scoring single in the fifth.

Ruffolo posted three hits with an RBI single. Alex Van Pelt and Joe Specht added two hits apiece. PJ Seufert (3-4) allowed six runs on 11 hits in 7.0 innings.

The Hawks (18-27, 8-16 GLVC) close out the regular season with a four-game series at Missouri-St. Louis on Friday and Saturday.
