Drury opens series with 4-3 win over Hawks

Colby Smith drove in three runs in Game 1.

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 Drury scored two unearned runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to rally for a 4-3 victory over Rockhurst in the first game of a conference doubleheader Sunday in Ozark, Missouri.

Rockhurst grabbed a 3-2 lead in the top of the seventh on a two-run single by Colby Smith. Drury opened their half of the seventh with a single and infield error. Both runners scored on a one-out single to center field.

Smith drove in three hits and posted one of the Hawks' four hits. Tyler Crouse allowed two runs on three hits over 5.0 innings.

The Panthers won the second game, 6-1, behind an 11-hit attack. Drury scored one run in the second, two runs in the third and three runs in the fourth.

Henry Weiler led the Hawks with two hits and one walk. Connor Ellefson hit an RBI single in the sixth. Jacob Thigpen (1-4) allowed six runs on 11 hits over 4.0 innings.

Drury completed the four-game sweep with 21-5 and 8-7 wins on Monday. The Panthers combined for 30 hits off six Rockhurst pitchers.

Corbin Hare drove in five runs in the two games. Tommy Kraus, Michael Ruffolo and Colby Smith each finished with three hits in the doubleheader.

The Hawks (7-21, 2-10 GLVC) play two games at Graceland (Iowa) on Wednesday.
