Hawks dedicate new stadium with pair of wins

Rockhurst recognized the support of the Skala Family and Jim Myers as the Hawks dedicated their new stadium on Saturday.
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Rockhurst Hawks dedicated their new baseball stadium and honored their new Hall of Fame class with a pair of wins over the Truman State Bulldogs Saturday at Loyola Park.

Jack Eisenbarger blanked Truman on six hits in a 4-0 win in Game One. Tyler Edwards came off the bench to hit a walkoff single with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Hawks a 3-2 victory in the second game.

In his lone at-bat of the day, Edwards drove an opposite field single through the right side to score Alex Van Pelt from third base. Van Pelt doubled to right center with two outs and advanced to third on a fielding error.

The Hawks rallied in the seventh to tie the score on a pinch-hit double by Cameron Dean. Corbin Hare gave Rockhurst a 1-0 lead with an RBI single in the fourth.

Van Pelt led the Hawks with three hits. Colby Smith added two hits to the 10-hit attack. Grant Ruediger (1-1) got the win in relief of starter Jacob Thigpen.

In the opener, Jeremy Lufft and Nic Mertes each posted three hits to lead Rockhurst. Lufft hit a run-scoring infield single in the sixth.

Henry Weiler and Tommy Kraus added two hits apiece. Weiler drove in two runs with a single up the middle in the fifth. Kraus opened the scoring with an RBI single in the fifth.

The Hawks (15-26, 7-15 GLVC) wrap up their home schedule against Truman State on Sunday at noon.
