Walk-off single gives Hawks 10-9 win in 11 innings

Alex Van Pelt led the Hawks with three hits and three RBIs.

Box Score Garrett McNally hit a two-out walk-off single in the 11th inning to give Rockhurst a 10-9 non-conference victory over Southwest Baptist Tuesday night at RU's Loyola Park.

Nic Mertes led off the 11th with a double down the right-field line. Nick Pascuzzi singled to the shortstop and stole second to give the Hawks base runners at second and third with no outs. Two batters later, McNally singled up the middle to end the game for the Hawks' second consecutive walk-off win at home.

Southwest Baptist forced extra innings by scoring a run in the ninth on a triple and sacrifice fly. The Bearcats ended up outhitting Rockhurst, 15-13.

Rockhurst scored five runs in the fifth to take an 8-5 lead. Alex Van Pelt and Connor Ellefson both doubled home two runs in the fifth.

Van Pelt led the Hawks with three hits and three RBIs. Wylson Lamb posted three hits and scored two runs. Jonathan Fink pitched two hitless innings to get his first win of the season.

The Hawks (12-23) host Maryville in a doubleheader on Saturday at noon.
