Jewell sweeps Hawks to split series

Tommy Kraus posted three hits on Saturday to raise his batting average to .388.

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 William Jewell held Rockhurst to five runs (one day after allowing 27 runs) in sweeping the Hawks Saturday at Liberty, Missouri to split the four-game conference series.

The Cardinals scored three runs in the fourth inning to win the first game, 5-2. Jewell added two runs in the second, while Rockhurst scored in the first and seventh.

Michael Ruffolo led the Hawks with two hits with an RBI single. Henry Weiler and Garrett McNally also had two hits. Jack Eisenbarger (2-4) gave up five runs on seven hits over 6.0 innings.

Jewell won the second game, 4-3, on a two-out RBI single in the 10th inning. The Cardinals rallied to tie the score at 3-3 in the eighth inning.

Rockhurst took a 3-2 lead in the sixth on a run-scoring single by McNally, who also drove in the Hawks' first run with a double in the third.

Tommy Kraus posted two hits with an RBI single in the third. Corbin Hare and Connor Ellefson also had two hits. Brock Collins allowed three runs on eight hits over 7.1 innings in his first start of the season.

The Hawks (11-23, 4-12 GLVC) host Southwest Baptist on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
