Hawks fall short in conference opener

Audrey Ford led the Hawks with three goals and six draw controls.

Box Score Fort Lewis held off a second-half Rockhurst rally to post a 13-9 victory over the Hawks in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opener Monday at RU's Bourke Field.

The Skyhawks scored three unanswered goals to take a 7-4 lead in the first half. RU's Marianna Anderson scored an unassisted goal to cut the Fort Lewis lead to 7-5 at halftime.

Hannah Miller scored her second goal of the game with 19:22 left in the game to pull the Hawks within two goals at 10-8. Fort Lewis scored the next three goals to take a 13-8 lead with 1:19 left to play.

Audrey Ford led the Hawks with three goals and six draw controls. Miller collected two goals on a team-high five shots. Clare Goessling added two goals on four shots.

Hanna Meek finished with two draw controls, two ground balls and three caused turnovers. Bunga Spencer posted three draw controls and two caused turnovers. Leena Nabulsi and Kelsey Norby combined for six saves.

The Hawks (3-2, 0-1 RMAC) play at Colorado-Colorado Springs on Wednesday.
