Rockhurst opens conference play at home

Jacob Thigpen posted five strikeouts in 6.0 innings in Game 1.
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Rockhurst opened the Great Lakes Valley Conference schedule with a pair of losses to Quincy, 5-2 and 1-0, on Saturday at RU's Loyola Park.

Quincy scored all five of its runs in the seventh inning in the first game. Quincy collected six consecutive hits off two Rockhurst pitchers to overcome a 1-0 deficit.

Henry Weiler led the Hawks with three hits, including a run-scoring double in the fifth inning. Alex Van Pelt added an RBI single in the seventh. Jacob Thigpen (1-2) allowed four runs on seven hits with five strikeouts over 6.0 innings.

Quincy won the second game on a home run by Michael Nielsen on a 2-1 pitch to right field in the fifth inning. Jack Eisenbarger (2-2) held Quincy to one run on four hits with nine strikeouts over 6.1 innings.

The Hawks (5-13, 0-2 GLVC) wrap up the four-game series with Quincy on Sunday afternoon.
