Rockhurst drops pair to Bearcats

Henry Weiler hit a grand slam in the first game to give the Hawks a 5-4 lead.

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Rockhurst wrapped up its season-opening series with a pair of losses at Southwest Baptist on Sunday in Bolivar, Missouri. The Bearcats won the first game 14-5 and held on for an 8-7 win in the second game.

Southwest Baptist scored 10 runs on nine hits in the sixth inning in the opener. Henry Weiler clubbed a grand slam to give the Hawks a 5-4 lead in the fifth inning. Alex Van Pelt doubled and scored on a single by Nathan Mark in the fourth. Weiler allowed four runs on four hits with three walks over 4.0 innings.

In the second game, the Hawks scored four runs in the seventh only to end the game with the tying run on second base. Mark hit a pinch hit three-run home run in the seventh. Cameron Dean and Garrett McNally each collected two hits. Tyler Crouse allowed six runs on nine hits over 5.1 innings.
