Hawks face road test at Missouri Western

The Rockhurst Hawks (6-3) meet the Missouri Western Griffons (5-6) for the second year in a row at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in St. Joseph, Missouri. The Hawks defeated the Griffons 73-59 at Rockhurst on Nov. 21, 2017.

Sophomore forward Quinton Curry leads the Hawks in scoring (14.4 points pg) and rebounding (5.4 pg). Curry ranks 16th in scoring, 17th in rebounding, second in field goal percentage (63.8) and 14th in blocked shots (0.67 pg) in the GLVC. Sophomore guard Chris Hamil stands 24th in scoring (13.8 pg), ninth in 3-point field goals made (2.44 pg) and ninth in steals (1.56 pg) in the GLVC. Sophomore guard Curtis Lewis ranks fourth in assists (5.11 pg), fifth in assist/turnover ratio and 26th in scoring (13.2 ppg) in the GLVC. Senior forward Connor Evans stands fifth in blocked shots (1.11) and 11th in steals (1.44) in the GLVC.

Rockhurst is coming off a 95-90 win over Emporia State Saturday at Rockhurst. Lewis led the Hawks with 24 points, seven rebounds and six assists. Eddie Muench came off the bench to score 22 points on seven-of-11 shooting and three assists. Curry finished with 14 points, four assists and two blocks. Hamil tallied 13 points and three assists. Evans posted nine points, four rebounds and two blocks.

Missouri Western has dropped five of its last six games, recently falling to Lincoln 79-68 at home on Dec. 5. The Griffons are led by senior forward Lavon Hightower, who is averaging 18.6 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. Hightower scored 24 points in the Western's loss to Lincoln.
