Conference season opens at Truman State

Curtis Lewis ranks fifth in the GLVC in assists.
The Rockhurst Hawks (3-2) open the conference season at Truman State (2-4) Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in Kirksville, Missouri.

The Bulldogs won their last meeting, 82-71, at Truman State on Feb. 3, 2018. Truman State holds a 26-14 advantage in the all-time series.

Sophomore guard Chris Hamil leads the Hawks in scoring (15.8 pg). Hamil ranks 12th in scoring, second in 3-point field goals made (3.20 pg) and second in steals (2.20 pg) in the GLVC. Sophomore forward Quinton Curry is averaging 14.0 points (on 63.4 percent shooting) and 4.8 rebounds per game.

Sophomore guard Curtis Lewis ranks fifth in the GLVC in assists (5.0 pg) while scoring 10.4 points per game. Sophomore forward Eddie Muench is adding 11.6 points per game on 45.8 percent field goal shooting. The Hawks rank third in the GLVC in scoring (84.6 pg).

The Hawks are coming off a 91-61 victory over York last Saturday at Rockhurst. Curry led the Hawks with 17 points and five rebounds. Muench scored 15 points on five three-point baskets. Hamil posted 13 points with four 3-pointers and three steals. Nick Volz collected 12 points and four rebounds. Freshman Tyler Garrett tallied 11 points and Auston Rushing each finished with 11 points. Lewis had a team-high nine assists and five rebounds. Connor Evans added a team-high seven rebounds and three steals.

Truman State enters the game riding a two-game winning streak. The Bulldogs defeated 18th-ranked Northern State (61-59) and Sioux Falls (70-67) in Aberdeen, South Dakota. Sophomore guard Turner Scott leads the Bulldogs with a 15.0 scoring average.

Rockhurst travels to Quincy on Saturday afternoon to face the 3-2 QU Hawks. Quincy opens the conference season on Thursday against William Jewell.
