Lewis leads Hawks to 79-70 road victory

Curtis Lewis scored a season-high 29 points to carry Rockhurst to a 79-70 victory over the Lewis Flyers Thursday in Romeoville, Illinois.

RU's Lewis scored 21 points in the second half as the Hawks pulled away over the final 12 minutes. The freshman guard tallied 12 points over the final six-plus minutes. He also finished with six rebounds and five assists.


The Hawks led 38-33 at halftime and outscored Lewis 42-38 in the second half while shooting 59.3 percent from the field.


"I am really proud of our entire team for our mindset for the past two weeks," said Rockhurst coach Drew Diener.
"It's been tough. However, we have stayed together and kept a good attitude and constructive approach to our improvement. We got a lot of great efforts from guys on and off the court tonight."


Quinton Curry collected 14 points, on seven-of-nine shooting, and 10 rebounds. Eddie Muench scored 10 points. Alex Hagan and Travis House each posted nine points.


Rockhurst shot 54.9 percent from the field (28 of 51) and 78.9 percent from the foul line (15 of 19). Lewis made 28 of 62 field goals (45.2 percent) and six of 10 free throws (60.0 percent).


The Hawks (9-8, 3-5 GLVC) play at Wisconsin-Parkside on Saturday.
