Hawks explode for 13-5 victory at Drury

Nic Mertes led the Hawks with four hits and two RBI in Game 1.

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Rockhurst collected seven extra-base hits in posting a 13-5 victory over Drury in the first game of a conference doubleheader Sunday in Ozark, Mo.

The Hawks scored four runs in the sixth inning to take a 6-5 victory. Nick Pascuzzi hit a pinch-hit three-run triple to cap the rally. David Stober hit a three-run inside the park home run in the seventh.

Nic Mertes led the Hawks with four hits and two RBI. Brett Marr posted three hits with a double and triple. Dylan Brauner and Alex Van Pelt each had two hits. Michael Lydon-Lorson (6-2) allowed five runs on eight hits with seven strikeouts over six innings.

The Panthers rallied to win the second game, 4-3. Drury tied the score in the seventh and won the game on a sacrifice fly in the eighth. Mertes gave the Hawks a 3-2 lead with an RBI double in the seventh. Joe Huber allowed three runs on eight hits over seven innings.

Rockhurst (19-20, 7-11 GLVC) will close out the four-game series at Drury on Monday.
