Hawks rally for 10-9 victory over UMSL Tritons

Seth Soto hit a two-run home run in the Hawks' 10-9 win over UMSL.

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 Rockhurst scored three runs in the final two innings to rally for a 10-9 victory over Missouri-St. Louis in the first game of a conference doubleheader Friday at Loyola Park.

Nic Mertes drove in the winning run with a sacrifice fly to left field in the bottom of the ninth inning. Seth Soto tied the game with a two-run home run off the scoreboard in left-center in the eighth.

David Stober led the Hawks with three hits. Soto, Corbin Hare and Mertes each posted two hits and combined for eight RBIs. Mitch Stickney hit a solo home run to center field in the fourth. Reliever PJ Seufert (2-1) was the winning pitcher.

The Tritons came back to win the second game, 9-6. UMSL hit three home runs, including a three-run blast in the seventh. Soto and Henry Weiler each collected two hits and two RBIs. Weiler (3-4) allowed three runs on five hits over 2.2 innings.

The Hawks dropped both ends of a doubleheader to UMSL on Sunday. The Tritons held on for a 9-8 win in the first game and shut out the Hawks, 5-0, in the nightcap.

Rockhurst (18-19, 6-10 GLVC) play a four-game series at Drury on April 22-23.
