Box Score 4 Seth Soto doubled home the winning run in the eighth inning to lead Rockhurst to a 5-2 victory over William Jewell in the second game of a conference opening doubleheader Saturday in Liberty, Mo.
The Hawks scored three runs in the eighth after
Alex Van Pelt tied the game in the seventh with an RBI single. Van Pelt went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the nine-hit attack.
Henry Weiler (1-1) held the Cardinals to two runs on five hits over eight innings.
In the first game, Jewell scored three runs in the first inning on the way to a 6-2 victory.
David Stober and
Nic Mertes each posted two hits for the Hawks.
Michael Lydon-Lorson (4-1) allowed four runs on nine hits with seven strikeouts over six innings.
The Hawks dropped both games at Jewell on Sunday, 5-3 and 2-0.
Corbin Hare had three hits in the first game. Van Pelt and
Mitch Stickney each collected two hits in the second game.
