Rockhurst riding momentum heading into Senior Day

Malachi Nix ranks 27th in scoring and 11th in assists in the GLVC.
The Rockhurst Hawks (13-7, 7-5 GLVC) host the Lewis Flyers (14-8, 9-3 GLVC) in a Great Lakes Valley Conference inter-divisional matchup today at 3 p.m.

The Flyers won their last meeting, 75-71, on Feb. 4, 2016 at Lewis. The Flyers lead the all-time series, 10-5.

Seniors Malachi Nix and Andrew Ellwanger are playing their final regular season home games today. Nix and Ellwanger will be recognized before the start of the men's game.

The Hawks have won 10 of their last 13 games. Junior forward Alex Hagan leads the Hawks in scoring (15.8) and rebounding (8.0).

Junior forward Kaleb Warner ranks 14th in scoring (15.0) and 11th in 3-point field goals made (2.6) in the GLVC. Nix is 27th in scoring (13.5), 11th in assists (4.0), ninth in free throw percentage (84.3), seventh in assist/turnover ratio (1.9) and 10th in minutes played (31.3) in the GLVC.

Junior center Gabe Brown ranks second in the GLVC in blocked shots (1.8). Junior guard Travis House is seventh in 3-point field goals made (2.8) in the GLVC. Sophomore forward Connor Evans ranks ninth in steals (1.5) in the GLVC.

Rockhurst scored 13 unanswered points down the stretch to pull away for a 64-54 victory over 22nd-ranked Wisconsin-Parkside Thursday at Mason-Halpin. The win was Rockhurst's first victory over a ranked opponent since January of 2010 when the Hawks upset second-ranked Bellarmine. Connor Evans and Mason Loewen combined for 20 points and 11 rebounds in the second half. Malachi Nix led the Hawks with 14 points and six assists. Loewen tallied 14 points. Evans finished with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

The Flyers are coming off an 81-78 victory at William Jewell Thursday night. Sophomore forward Delaney Blaylock led Lewis with 25 points. Senior guard Miles Simelton is 11th in scoring (15.7) and 14th in assists (3.5) in the GLVC. Blaylock ranks 17th in scoring (14.5) and 20th in rebounding (5.4) in the GLVC. Junior forward Cresten Wilson ranks ninth in rebounding (6.6) in the GLVC. Sophomore center Frank Vukaj leads the GLVC in blocked shots (2.0). Scott Trost is in his 11th season as the Flyers' head coach.
