Rockhurst faces Drury in GLVC Tournament

The ninth-seeded Rockhurst Hawks (14-12, 8-10 GLVC) meet the eighth-seeded Drury Panthers (17-9, 10-8 GLVC) at 2 p.m. Sunday in Springfield, Mo., in the first round of the 2017 Great Lakes Valley Conference Men's Basketball Tournament.

This marks the sixth appearance in the GLVC Tournament for the Hawks, who are 1-5 all-time in the GLVC Tournament. The Panthers won their last meeting, 70-68, earlier this season in Springfield. Drury has won the last 11 meetings and leads the all-time series, 68-44.

ABOUT ROCKHURST: The Hawks finished in fourth place in the GLVC West Division. Junior forward Kaleb Warner ranks 12th in scoring (15.4) and eighth in 3-point field goals made (2.5) in the GLVC. Senior guard Malachi Nix ranks 28th in scoring (13.2), 11th in assists (4.0), seventh in free throw percentage (83.0) and seventh in assist/turnover ratio (2.0) in the GLVC. Junior forward Alex Hagan ranks 20th in scoring (14.4) and eighth in rebounding (7.7). Junior center Gabe Brown ranks fifth in blocked shots (1.6) in the GLVC. Junior guard Travis House ranks 11th in 3-point field goals made (2.5) in the GLVC. Sophomore forward Connor Evans ranks 14th in steals (1.3) in the GLVC.

LAST GAME: For the second time in eight days, Rockhurst suffered a road loss on a last-second shot. William Jewell's Patrick Whelan made a layup with one second left to rally the Cardinals to an 84-80 victory over the Hawks Thursday night in Liberty, Mo. The Hawks took an 80-78 lead on a jumper by Kaleb Warner with 45 seconds left. Whelan made a layup for Jewell to knot the score with 30 seconds left. Warner turned the ball over with 5.8 seconds left. Whelan then took the inbounds pass past midcourt and drove the floor for his game-winning shot. He added two free throws with 0.2 seconds left after Rockhurst turned the ball over. Alex Hagan led the Hawks with 19 points. Warner scored 15 points. Mason Loewen posted 14 points and six rebounds. Malachi Nix collected 13 points and four assists.
