Jeremy Lufft posted three hits and five RBIs to lead Rockhurst to a 16-6 victory over Illinois Springfield Sunday in Springfield, Ill.
Lufft hit a grand slam in the third inning to give the Hawks a 5-0 lead. He added a run-scoring single in the Hawks' four-run eighth inning.
Mitch Stickney posted two hits and four RBIs. Stickney hit a three-run homer in the sixth.
Seth Soto added three hits with a run-scoring single in the fourth.
Wylson Lamb,
Brett Marr and
Henry Weiler each posted two hits as the Hawks finished with 17 hits. Marr delivered a two-run single in the eighth and
Chase Leavy added a two-run double in the ninth.
Joe Huber (1-0) held Springfield to one run on three hits over five innings.
Jake Goessling,
PJ Seufert and
Alex Merithew pitched the final four innings.
The Hawks (2-0) host Lewis in their home opener on Saturday (Feb. 25).
