Emporia State pulled away from Rockhurst down the stretch to post an 82-65 victory over the Hawks in the ESU Thanksgiving Classic Saturday night at White Auditorium in Emporia, Kansas.

The Hornets outscored Rockhurst 25-14 over the final 10-plus minutes. The Hawks did not make a field goal over the final seven and a half minutes while going five-of-nine at the foul line.

"I feel like we played pretty well for 30 minutes tonight," said Rockhurst coach Drew Diener. "We had some balls that we didn't get and some mental errors that compounded quickly. I believe we will become a great team. It's frustrating, but we have to get in the gym and film room, and improve."

Eddie Muench led the Hawks with 21 points on eight-of-14 shooting. Zach Burch came off the bench to score 12 points and grab seven rebounds. Quinton Curry added nine points on four-of-10 shooting. Alex Hagan and Curtis Lewis each collected six rebounds.

Rockhurst hit 42.1 percent on its field goals (24 of 57) and 52.4 percent from the foul line (11 of 21). Emporia State made 32 of 62 field goals (51.6 percent) and 10 of 12 free throws (83.3 percent).

The Hawks (3-3) open conference play at home on Thursday against Quincy.
