Box Score Rockhurst ended its first appearance in the GLVC-GLIAC Tip-Off Classic with a 71-51 loss to Davenport on Saturday in Westville, Indiana.
Davenport closed the first half on an 11-3 run and scored the first eight points of the second half to take a 21-point lead, 46-25, with 16:33 left to play.
"Their ball pressure completely dictated the flow of the game," said Rockhurst coach Drew Diener. "We rarely had confident offensive possessions. We didn't respond with the cutting and ball toughness that was called for to get great shots."
The Hawks were held to 40.9 percent shooting from the field on 18-of-44 field goals. Rockhurst also turned the ball over 16 times, leading to 19 points for Davenport.
"It's disappointing," added Diener. "Foul trouble hurt us early as well. We can't commit bad fouls."
Quinton Curry led the Hawks with 11 points on four-of-six shooting. Alex Hagan finished with nine points and six rebounds. Auston Rushing scored eight points. Curtis Lewis added eight points and five assists.
Davenport hit 51.0 percent on their field goals (25 of 40) and 36.8 percent from beyond the 3-point line (seven of 19). The Panthers outrebounded the Hawks, 36-24.
Rockhurst (1-1) will play an exhibition game at Saint Louis University Monday night.
