Rockhurst opens their 2017-18 campaign Friday, beginning in the GLVC/GLIAC Challenge. The Hawks will travel to Westville, Indiana to take on Purdue Northwest and Davenport.

About Purdue Northwest
Purdue Northwest enters their first year in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference, previously competing at the NAIA level. PWN returns Senior Torrence Johnson, who averaged a team best 16.7 points and 9.8 rebounds per game for the Pride last year. PWN also returns Tyree Coe and Chandler Spring, who averaged 14.7 and 13.3 points per game, respectively. The pride finished last year 13-17 last year under first year head coach Matt Bush.
About Davenport
Like Purdue Northwest, Davenport will enter the first year in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Coach Burt Paddock has coached the Panthers for the previous nine season, where he has amassed a 246-67 record. The Panthers roster includes eight returners and nine newcomers. Included in the nine newcomers are two Division I transfers, and one Junior College transfer.
Davenport fell to Division I Oakland 102-61 in their exhibition opener. They will face William Jewell on Friday at 5 PM.
About Rockhurst
Rockhurst returns two starters from the 2016-17 season.
Alex Hagan returns as a Junior, where he started started 17 games in 19 appearances. He averaged 13.9 points on 54% shooting, including 41% from behind the arch. Also returning is Junior
Connor Evans, who started all 27 games for the Hawks in the previous year. Evans averaged 8.3 points and grabbed 5 rebounds per game. Off the bench, Rockhurst returns sharp shooter Travis House for his senior season.
The Hawks will rely on key additions of Junior College transfer Auston Rushing and freshmen Curtis Lewis, Quinton Curry, Zach Burch, and Eddie Muench. Rushing led the Hawks Saturday against Southern Illinois with 12 first half points.
Last Time Out
Rockhurst opened the 2017-18 season last Saturday with a 98-68 loss at Southern Illinois as five players scored in double figures for the Salukis.
The Hawks shot 50 percent from the field in the first half as Rockhurst went into halftime only trailing 39-36. Junior forward
Auston Rushing scored the first eight points of the game for the Hawks as Rockhurst jumped out to an 11-2 lead.
Southern Illinois outscored the Hawks 19-4 in the first five minutes of the second half to take a 58-40 lead. The Salukis shot 62.5 percent in the second half while scoring 59 points in the final 20 minutes.
Rushing led Rockhurst with 12 points (all in the first half) and five rebounds.
Zach Burch posted 10 points on five-of-six shooting. Freshman
Eddie Muench hit three 3-pointers to finish with nine points. Freshman
Curtis Lewis tallied eight points, three assists and three rebounds. Freshman
Quinton Curry also scored eight points.
Head Coach Drew Diener
Drew Diener begins his third year, where he previously led the Hawks to their first winning season in seven years. Diener has amassed a 168-43 record as a head coach, including a NAIA National Championship at Cardinal Stritch (WI) in 2013.
