Box Score Led by six players in double figures, Rockhurst rallied in the second half for a 93-83 victory over Maryville Saturday at Mason-Halpin Field House.
Alex Hagan paced Rockhurst with 21 points, behind 10-of-13 shooting, and 14 rebounds. The junior forward put the Hawks in front for good with a layup with 7:14 left to play. Rockhurst (12-7, 6-5 GLVC) ended the game on a 10-2 run.
"We came out flat in the first half, especially on the defensive end,"Â said Rockhurst coach Drew Diener. "At one point they were shooting 75 percent and were able to get a lot of confidence going."
The Saints knocked down 18 of their first 24 shots to take a 47-38 lead with 1:32 left in the first half. The Hawks scored the next eight points to cut Maryville's lead to one point early in the second half.
"The second half, defensively we were much better,"Â Diener added. "I thought their matchup defense gave us trouble early and kept you off balance. It was a great finish to the weekend."
Malachi Nix made 13-of-16 free throws in the second half to finish with 19 points. Travis House tallied 18 points behind six three-pointers. Kaleb Warner scored 15 points on six-of-13 shooting.
Connor Evans finished with 10 points, five rebounds, eight assists and two steals. Mason Loewen added 10 points and three assists.
Rockhurst shot 50.8 percent from the field (30 of 59) and 79.3 percent at the foul line (23 of 29). Maryville (7-16, 1-10 GLVC) made 27-of-49 field goals (55.1 percent) and 19-of-25 free throws (76.0 percent).
The Hawks next host Wisconsin-Parkside on Thursday (Feb. 2).
