Hawks meet Tritons in key GLVC West matchup

Junior forward Kaleb Warner ranks 16th in scoring and ninth in 3-point field goals made in the GLVC.
The Rockhurst Hawks (10-7, 4-5 GLVC) host the Missouri-St. Louis Tritons (9-10, 3-6 GLVC) at 7:30 p.m. today in a Great Lakes Valley Conference West Division matchup.

The Tritons won their last meeting, 75-62, at UMSL on Jan. 30, 2016. UMSL has won the last four meetings to even the all-time series at 20-20.

The Hawks have won seven of their last 10 games. Junior forward Alex Hagan leads the Hawks in scoring (16.0) and rebounding (7.4). Junior forward Kaleb Warner ranks 16th in scoring (15.1) and ninth in 3-point field goals made (2.6) in the GLVC.

Senior guard Malachi Nix is 27th in scoring (13.5), 12th in assists (3.6), 11th in assist/turnover ratio (1.7) and 12th in 3-point field goal percentage (45.0) in the GLVC. Junior center Gabe Brown leads the GLVC and ranks tied for 30th in the nation in blocked shots (2.0). Junior guard Travis House is 11th in 3-point field goals made (2.6) in the GLVC. Sophomore forward Connor Evans ranks ninth in steals (1.5) in the GLVC. Rockhurst ranks second in 3-point field goals made (10.2) and sixth in blocked shots (3.5) in the GLVC.

Rockhurst fell short at Drury, 70-68, last Saturday in Springfield, Mo. The Hawks went on a 9-1 run down the stretch to pull within one point (64-63) with 2:13 remaining. Drury made four free throws in the final 15 seconds, while Rockhurst went two-for-four at the foul line. Kaleb Warner led the Hawks with 19 points on seven-of-13 shooting. He hit four-of-nine three-pointers. Travis House scored 14 points on five-of-13 shooting. Malachi Nix finished with 13 points, three assists and two steals. Rockhurst shot 42.3 percent from the field and 36.1 percent on three-point field goals.

The Tritons are coming off an 86-82 loss in overtime against Truman State last Saturday. Junior guard Steven Davis led UMSL with 24 points. Senior center Hunter Reine ranks fourth in rebounding (8.3) and fifth in field goal percentage (61.9) in the GLVC. Davis ranks third in 3-point field goals made (3.1). Bob Sundvold is in his fourth season as UMSL's head coach and has a 56-49 record.
