Hawks host Illinois Springfield in a 2:00 p.m. tipoff

The Rockhurst Hawks (8-6, 2-4 GLVC) host the Illinois Springfield Prairie Stars (6-8. 1-4 GLVC) today at 2 p.m. in a Great Lakes Valley Conference inter-divisional matchup.

The Hawks won their last meeting, 78-68, at Springfield on Jan. 14, 2016. Springfield leads the all-time series 5-4, winning two of the last four meetings.

Junior forward Alex Hagan leads the Hawks in scoring (16.2) and rebounding (7.3). Junior forward Kaleb Warner is averaging 13.7 points and 4.9 rebounds. Senior guard Malachi Nix ranks 28th in scoring (13.2), eighth in 3-point field goal percentage (50.0), 13th in assist/turnover ratio and 15th in assists (3.4) in the GLVC. Junior guard Travis House ranks eighth in 3-point field goals made (2.8) in the GLVC. Junior center Gabe Brown leads the GLVC and ranks 23rd in the nation in blocked shots (2.14). Sophomore forward Connor Evans ranks 12th in steals (1.4) in the GLVC. Rockhurst ranks fifth in blocked shots (3.6) and fifth in 3-point field goals made (9.6) in the GLVC.

Malachi Nix scored a career-high 30 points to direct Rockhurst to an 81-65 victory over McKendree Thursday at Mason-Halpin. Nix connected on 11-of-14 field goals, including hitting four-of-six three-pointers. Nix was also a perfect four-of-four at the foul line, in addition to collecting five rebounds and four assists. Alex Hagan finished with 16 points and 14 rebounds for his second double-double of the season. Travis House scored nine points. Rockhurst shot 49.2 percent from the field and 34.5 percent on three-pointers.

The Prairie Stars are coming off an 89-85 win at William Jewell Thursday night. Senior forward Paxton Harmon led Springfield with 27 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore guard Vince Walker added 17 points and seven rebounds. Junior guard Eddie Longmeyer ranks 19th in scoring (14.6) and fifth in assists (4.6) in the GLVC. Sophomore center Zach Steinberg ranks 20th in scoring (14.6) and first in rebounding (10.1). Steinberg is the only player in the GLVC to average a double-double. Bill Walker is in his third season as Springfield's head coach and has a 28-42 record.
