Box Score Alex Hagan scored 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Rockhurst to a 72-65 victory over Illinois Springfield Saturday at Mason-Halpin Field House.
Hagan made seven-of-16 field goals, while draining seven-of-eight free throws. He posted his second consecutive double-double and his third double-double of the season.
"I thought we had another great defensive mindset throughout that game,"Â said Rockhurst coach Drew Diener. "In the half court, we really were focused. They got us in transition in the first half especially, but I thought our guys responded well."
The Hawks (9-6, 3-4 GLVC) used an 11-0 run to take a 37-29 halftime lead. Rockhurst led by 16 (51-35) with 11:41 left in the game before holding off a Springfield rally in the final six minutes. The Hawks iced the win by hitting five-of-six free throws in the final minute.
Kaleb Warner collected 17 points, four rebounds and three assists. Malachi Nix tallied 11 points, five rebounds, five assists and three steals. Connor Evans added eight points, six rebounds and three assists.
Rockhurst shot 41.4 percent from the field (24 of 58) and 75.0 percent on free throws (15 of 20). Springfield (6-9, 1-5 GLVC) made 23-of-47 field goals (48.9 percent) and 11-of-15 free throws (11 of 15).
The Hawks play at Missouri S&T on Thursday (Jan. 19).
