Box Score 2 Rockhurst dedicated its new dugouts by sweeping the Maryville Saints, 9-2 and 4-3, in the Hawks' home opener Saturday at Loyola Park.
The Hawks won the first game while posting 15 hits. Rockhurst scored seven runs on six hits in the seventh inning to take a 9-0 lead.Â
Seth Soto keyed the seven-run outburst with a three-run home run that hit off the top of the left-field fence. Soto also singled home a run in the fourth.
Michael Lydon-Lorson (3-3) allowed two runs on eight hits over 8.2 innings.
David Stober led the Hawks with four hits and two runs scored.
Henry Weiler collected two hits with a double and an RBI single.
Wylson Lamb added two hits with an RBI single.
In the second game, the Hawks won on a walk-off wild pitch with two outs in the bottom of the seventh.
Tim Mahoney walked to lead off the seventh, advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt and a groundout, and scored on a wild pitch by Saints' reliever Brandon Downey.
Henry Weiler (5-1) allowed three runs on six hits in 7.0 innings. He walked two and struck out two. Weiler had an RBI single in the first. Mahoney singled home a run in the fourth and the Hawks took a 3-1 lead in the fourth with the help of a balk.
Joe, Donna and Taylor Skala (Class of 2015) and Jim Myers (Class of 1968) threw out the first pitches before the first game on Saturday. The new dugouts and backstop is Phase One for the Loyola Park Baseball Field. Phase Two will include stadium seating, restrooms and a pressbox, which will be completed this summer.The Hawks (12-15, 3-3 GLVC) host Maryville (11-14, 2-4 GLVC) in another twinbill on Sunday (April 3)
