Rockhurst to dedicate new dugouts on Saturday

Rockhurst University will hold its Dugouts Dedication for the Loyola Park Baseball Field on Saturday, April 2.

The Hawks will host the Maryville Saints in a doubleheader at noon and 3 p.m. A dugout dedication ceremony will take place at 11:45 a.m.

Joe, Donna and Taylor Skala (Class of 2015) and Jim Myers (Class of 1968) will throw out the first pitches prior to the first game on Saturday. The Skala family will be representing the Kaminski family consisting of Joseph, Rose and Stephanie.

Bronze plaques on the third-base dugout will also be dedicated honoring the Kaminski family, Jim Myers and Rockhurst baseball coach Gary Burns for their commitments to the improvement of the Loyola Park Baseball Field. Former Rockhurst players will also be recognized.

The new dugouts and backstop is Phase One for the Loyola Park Baseball Field. Phase Two will include stadium seating, restrooms and a pressbox, which will be completed this summer.

"The Rockhurst baseball program is deeply indebted to the Skala/Kaminski family and Jim Meyers for the tremendous financial support that have made these facilities a reality," said Burns, who also serves as the athletic director at Rockhurst. "This project will not only provide a great facility for the players, but enhance recruiting opportunities for the future."

Food tickets can be purchased for $6 per ticket. Each ticket is good for one hot dog, one bag of chips and one soda.

Guests are asked to purchase tickets in advance to ensure an accurate food count. Beer may also be purchased at the event for $2.50 (guests will be required to show photo ID).

Bleacher seating is available, or guests can bring their own blanket or lawn chair.
