Box Score 2 Rockhurst could not overcome a seven-run fourth inning by Grand Valley State in falling to the Lakers, 17-9, Monday at Jack Russell Stadium in Clearwater, Florida.
The Hawks scored five runs in the third to take a 5-4 lead.
Nic Mertes doubled home two runs and
Tim Mahoney added an RBI double.
Seth Soto hit a three-run home run in the fourth to cut the Lakers' lead to 11-9.
Brett Marr led the Hawks with three hits.
Henry Weiler, Soto, Mertes and Mahoney each collected two hits as Rockhurst finished with 13 hits.
Andrew Ellwanger took the loss in his first start of the season.
Earlier Monday, Rockhurst suffered a 12-8 loss to Minnesota Crookston. The Hawks jumped out to an 8-3 lead in the fourth. Crookston grabbed a 9-8 lead in the sixth and added three more runs in the seventh.
David Stober, Marr and Soto each posted three three hits for the 15-hit Rockhurst attack.
Henry Weiler,
Jeremy Lufft and Stickney finished with two hits apiece. Stickney hit a three-run home run to left field in the third.

The Hawks (6-7) close out their Spring Break trip in Florida against Wayne State (Mich.) on Tuesday in Clearwater.
