Box Score The Rockhurst women got off to fast start in their 2016 season opener before falling to Alabama Huntsville, 16-12, Saturday at Bourke Field.
Tierney Buschbacher scored three consecutive goals to give the Hawks a 7-3 lead midway through the first half. Huntsville tallied nine unanswered goals to give the Chargers a 12-7 lead early in the second half.
Huntsville increased its lead to 15-9 with 11 minutes left to play. The Hawks scored two goals in the final five minutes to pull within four goals of the Chargers with 1:10 left on the clock.
Buschbacher led the Hawks with three goals and one assist. Maddie Schiepeter tallied two goals, three assists and seven ground balls.
Hannah Weisbrod posted two goals and one assist.
Madeline Gilstrap added on two goals. Devey Fossey,
Madison Naes and
Shayna Stevens each tallied one goal.
Rockhurst finished with 30 shots and 23 shots on goal. Weisbrod and Stevens led the Hawks with eight shots apiece. Nabulsi and
Natalie Washington combined to post eight saves.
The Hawks will host Ottawa on Monday at 6 p.m.
